Due to the spillage of the Akosombo Dam, the various access routes to the safe havens were heavily flooded rendering access to the safe havens and other parts of Mepe very difficult. The only way at the time was to cross using a canoe. This became the mode of transport but overtime the water became contaminated and still resorting to this mode of transport put the people at risk of contacting water borne diseases, cholera and the likes. This then necessitated the construction of another access point to the various safe havens. This new access route from Battor leads to Mepe St. Kizito and the other areas that were not easily accessible due to the flood. This project was undertaken by VRA in collaboration with the District Assembly. Even though it makes the trip longer for folks at Mepe, it is a far better option for now while the waterat the flooded areas is being pumped following the receeding of the water level caused by the spillage.
